Chickens & Pig

An update on the chickens and pig, they are all getting so big!  The chickens are growing up nicely and they have their nesting boxes in their coop now, though it will still be several weeks before they will start laying.  The piggy is getting nice and fat and growing up fast.  Here are some of the more recent pictures.

The most recent picture of the chickens, taken May 16

The nest boxes are in the coop - will eventually raise them up a bit

Lots of updates

I haven't updated in a while and I have since taken lots of photos and the garden has all been planted and is growing nicely.  We were originally going to put in 40 tomatoes but that has since grown to 50, so we have 50 tomatoes of many different varieties in the garden - we have some Better Boys, Big Boys, Whoppers, Better Bush, LOTS of Romas (which are already starting to produce a few little green tomatoes!), cherry and pearl tomato plants, Gypsy, Atkinson, Fletcher, Genovessee, Pasture, Goldmans, Moreton, Beefsteak, Delicious and Rutgers.  Some that we got from our local 'Farmers Exchange', some that I started from seedlings, and some that we got from two different friends of ours.  We have 36 pepper plants, lots of different ones there as well.  We have a few different kinds of bell peppers (Purple Bells, Yellow Monster Bells, California Bells, Grand Bell Mix, Fajita Bells) and a few Sweet Banana Peppers and a couple different types of hot peppers like Jalapenos, Cayenne, Purple Cayenne, Serranos.  15 Zucchini and Squash plants, there is some that already have a few little Zucchini coming in.  9 Pickling Cucumbers and a Straight 8 and Marketmore Cucumber.  We have a few Broccoli, all that I started from seedlings, a Japanese Eggplant (which I must say is very pretty) and 6 Dusky Eggplant.  We put 67 Texas Super Sweet Onions in which are doing great, we tried some onions last year but they didn't do well at all.  5 Cantaloupe and 2 Watermelon that I started as seedlings are growing nicely.  The seeds we put directly into the garden without starting are coming up and doing great, that includes 4 Pumpkins (giant variety), 3 different kinds of Carrots (Tendersweet, Chatenay and Danvers Half Long), 2 kinds of Beets (Cylindra and Detroit Dark Red) and 2 kinds of Radishes (French Breakfast and Early Scarlet Globe).  Corn is coming up nicely, the Okra as well.  We have lots of Beans and Peas coming up.  Green Bush Beans, Wax (Yellow) Bush Beans, Lima Beans, Wando Pea and Little Marvel Peas and lots of Field Peas.  I think that is about everything, we have a lot of different stuff we plan on putting in for our Fall garden.  I also have lots of herbs but those are being kept in pots this year in front of the house instead of down in the garden.  We have basil, sage, peppermint, parsley, oregano, thyme and dill.  The grapes are also coming along great, are Niagara Grapes are getting big!  Here are some of the most recent pics, will get more pics today or tomorrow and post them as the plants are all getting bigger each day!
