We picked up our piglet yesterday. He is a Berkshire barrow (castrated male), they had two barrows available and we picked this guy (he was bigger than his brother). We got him in his new home, we will continue to reinforce his pen so that there is no chance of escape but right now he seems really content where he is. We still have to build him a shelter which we will do this week, right now we have a dog house in there for him with lots of shavings which he can fit in but probably not for to much longer as they grow so quick. He is probably a good 50 pounds already, he LOVES to be scratched and rubbed. If you scratch his back just right and move down towards his belly, he will fall right over on his side so that you can rub his belly. I know a lot of people don't like naming animals they are eventually going to eat, but I find it easier to call them something other than 'the pig', don't know what his name really is yet as everyone has been calling him all sorts of different things - Bacon, Maple, Wilbur and my sister even said last night that we should call him Belvadere - LOL But it sounds like the name Wilbur is probably going to be the one that sticks. Although I might start calling him Porkchop myself ;)
